Concrete Foundations & Slabs
NLS Contractors builds isolated, strip and raft foundations and ground slabs in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Khobar and across the Kingdom, with reinforcement, formwork and pours to ACI 318 and ready-mix to ASTM C94. Handover includes pour records, cube test results, rebar inspection records and as-builts.
Foundations carry the structure, so the package follows the structural drawings and the soil report together. Scope covers blinding, formwork, reinforcement, pours and curing for isolated pad footings, strip footings, raft foundations and ground slabs, with excavation included when it is not already in the earthworks package. The engineer chooses the type: pads for column loads on good ground, strips under walls, a raft where the ground is weak or the loads are spread.
Concrete is detailed to ACI 318 and delivered as ready-mix to ASTM C94. The soil report decides the cement. Where sulphates or chlorides are present in the soil or groundwater, as they often are on coastal and sabkha sites, the specification calls for ASTM C150 Type V or another sulphate-resisting cement, and the mix and cover are set to suit.
Summer sets the pour plan. Hot-weather practice under ACI 305R limits concrete temperature at placing, controls evaporation and starts curing early. Large pours go in the cooler hours, and the offer names the pour sequence and the curing method instead of leaving them for the site.
Records follow every pour. Rebar is inspected against the drawings before the concrete arrives, covering bar size, spacing, cover and laps, and the consultant signs it off. Slump and concrete temperature are logged, and cylinders (ASTM C39) or cubes (BS EN 12390-3) are cast and tested as the specification names, with the results filed against the pour they belong to.
The formation is inspected before blinding goes down. Where the geotechnical report sets a bearing capacity, the consultant checks the formation against it, so a soft spot is found before concrete covers it. On sites with a high water table, dewatering and the pour sequence are coordinated so concrete is never placed in standing water.
Ground slabs sit on the compacted subbase with blinding, membrane where specified, joints and a finish suited to the floor use. A warehouse floor and a ward floor are different specifications, so the finish tolerance is read from the project documents. Send the structural drawings, the geotechnical report, the BOQ, the concrete specification clause, the site city and the programme.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the soil report matter to the cement type?+
Sulphates and chlorides in soil or groundwater attack ordinary cement concrete and the steel inside it. Where the report shows them, the specification calls for ASTM C150 Type V or another sulphate-resisting cement, with cover and mix to suit.
What records come with a foundation pour?+
A pour record, the rebar inspection sign-off from before the pour, slump and temperature readings, and cylinder (ASTM C39) or cube (BS EN 12390-3) results filed against that pour.
Can foundations be priced without the earthworks?+
Yes, as a separate foundation package or together with earthworks. The offer states where excavation and backfill sit, so nothing is counted twice or missed between packages.
What affects the choice between pad, strip and raft?+
The structural engineer decides from the column loads and the bearing capacity in the soil report. The contractor builds the type shown on the drawings and prices the quantities in the BOQ.
