Roads & Paving
NLS Contractors builds road and paving packages in Saudi Arabia: base and subbase, asphalt paving, interlocking pavers and kerbs, road marking, signage, traffic safety devices and car parks. Layers are compacted and tested to ASTM methods, asphalt follows the approved mix design, and the owning authority's specification governs.
A road is built from the bottom, so the quality sits in layers nobody sees after the asphalt goes down. The subgrade is prepared and tested, the subbase and aggregate base course are laid in lifts, and every lift is compacted and checked before the next one starts. Modified Proctor (ASTM D1557) sets the target density, CBR (ASTM D1883) confirms the bearing strength, and field density tests close each layer.
Asphalt follows the mix design the authority approves. Marshall design to ASTM D6927 is common, Superpave is specified on some roads, and the binder grade is chosen for Saudi pavement temperatures, with performance grading to AASHTO M 320. A prime coat seals the base, a tack coat bonds the layers, and the paver and rollers work inside temperature windows. Cores are cut afterwards to prove thickness and density.
The owning authority writes the specification. National roads sit with the Roads General Authority and city streets sit with the municipality, so the enquiry should say which applies. Interlocking concrete pavers and kerbs follow the detail drawings, with units to ASTM C936, bedding sand and edge restraint. Road marking, signs, studs, crash barriers, bollards and speed humps are finished against the retroreflectivity and material classes in the same specification.
Asphalt is priced by the square metre at a stated thickness, or by the tonne laid. What moves the figure: the width and number of layers, the condition of the base, haul distance from the plant, traffic management during the works and the programme. A kilometre rate means little without those, so the offer states them. Car parks and internal roads for hospitals, warehouses and compounds follow the same sequence, with extra attention to falls and gullies.
Send the road drawings and cross-sections, the specification, the BOQ with quantities, the site city and the programme.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is asphalt paving priced?+
Per square metre at a stated thickness or per tonne laid. Width, number of layers, base condition, haul distance, traffic management and programme all move the figure, so the offer lists them instead of quoting a kilometre rate.
What tests prove an asphalt road was built properly?+
Layer compaction and CBR tests below the asphalt, approval of the mix design, and cores for thickness and density after paving.
Who sets the specification for road works?+
The owning authority. National roads follow the Roads General Authority, city streets follow the municipality, and private compounds follow the consultant's specification.
Do you install road marking and crash barriers?+
Yes. Thermoplastic and paint markings, studs, signs, barriers, bollards and speed humps are part of the roads package or can be priced alone.
