Pre-Engineered Steel Buildings (PEB)

NLS Contractors supplies and erects pre-engineered steel buildings for warehouses, factories, hangars and showrooms in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Khobar. Frames are built-up tapered sections with cold-formed purlins and sheeting, designed to MBMA, AISC 360 and AISI S100 with SBC 301 loads. Handover includes anchor bolt plans, erection drawings, material certificates and as-builts.

A pre-engineered building is a steel building designed as a system by its maker. The primary frames are built-up I-sections, deep where the bending moment peaks and slim where it does not, which is why they look tapered. Cold-formed Z or C purlins and girts carry the roof sheeting and wall cladding, and bracing keeps the frame square. The result suits warehouses, factories, hangars and showrooms where the plan is a simple rectangle and the span is long.

Design follows the MBMA Low Rise Building Systems Manual, AISC 360 for the primary frames and AISI S100 for the cold-formed members, with loads per SBC 301. The design wind speed and any collateral loads belong on the enquiry: lighting, sprinkler pipework, ducts, and solar panels on the roof. A roof sized for sheeting alone will not carry a PV array later without strengthening.

Options move the price more than the frame does. Clear span or interior columns, insulated roof and wall panels or single skin with a liner, skylights, roof ventilators, mezzanines, canopies, and crane beams. Crane runway beams need their own design, so give the crane capacity and duty class at the start.

PEB wins on programme and steel weight where the geometry is regular. Conventional rolled-section steel wins on heavy cranes, multi-storey plans and irregular shapes. If the consultant's scheme is conventional, the offer can price it as drawn and add a PEB alternative for comparison, with the differences listed.

The anchor bolt plan is the first drawing the civil team needs, because the base reactions on it set the foundation design and the bolt positions. It is issued early, and the as-built survey of the bolts is requested before erection starts. Erection then proceeds bay by bay with a crane, bolted connections, and a check of plumb and level at each stage. Foundations are a separate concrete package, quoted alongside on request.

Price depends on building width, length and eave height, roof slope, design wind speed, crane loads, insulation and the cladding specification. Lead time depends on that scope and the offer states it. Send the plan and section, the design loads, the finish specification and the site city.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a PEB quote need from me?+

Building width, length and eave height, roof slope, the design wind speed and load basis, any crane capacity, insulation and cladding requirements, door openings and the site city. A plan, a section and the finish specification are enough to start.

Can a PEB carry an overhead crane?+

Yes, if it is designed for one. The runway beams and the frames that support them are sized for the stated capacity and duty class, so the crane details must be on the enquiry. A crane added later usually means checking and strengthening the frames.

Can solar panels be added to a PEB roof?+

Yes, provided the roof is designed for the added load. State the PV weight and layout at enquiry so the purlins and frames are sized for it from the start.

Who builds the foundations for a PEB?+

Foundations are a separate concrete package. The PEB design issues the anchor bolt plan and base reactions, and the offer can include the foundations or coordinate with the client's own concrete contractor.
