LV Power Distribution Installation

LV power distribution installation covers main, sub-main and final distribution boards, cable tray, trunking, conduit, cables, terminations and earthing. Work follows SBC 401, IEC 60364 and IEC 61439 for assemblies, with SEC requirements on grid connections, in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Khobar. Handover includes single line diagrams, test certificates, labelling schedules and as-builts.

LV power distribution is the part of the electrical package that carries power from the incoming supply to every final circuit. NLS Contractors takes it as a works package: main and sub-main distribution boards, final distribution boards, cable tray, trunking and conduit, cables, glands and terminations, earthing and bonding, then testing and handover. Switchgear, boards and cable can be client-supplied or sourced through NLS Power (nlspower.com) and priced in the same offer.

The framework is the electrical part of the Saudi Building Code, SBC 401, with IEC 60364 for the design and installation of low voltage systems and IEC 61439 for the switchgear and controlgear assemblies. Where the supply connects to the grid, SEC requirements for the connection and metering apply on top. The offer lists the standards it assumes so the consultant can check them against the specification.

Installation order matters. Containment goes in first and is coordinated with HVAC ducts, pipework and ELV routes, because power and ELV cables are kept apart. Boards are set on plinths or walls to the layout drawings with the clearances needed for access. Cables are pulled to the cable schedule, labelled at both ends and terminated with lugs and glands suited to the conductor and the enclosure. Earthing and bonding tie the boards, tray and exposed metalwork to the earthing system.

Quality here is mostly invisible once the ceiling closes, so verification is recorded circuit by circuit under IEC 60364-6: insulation resistance, continuity of protective conductors and earth loop impedance, followed by functional checks and protective device settings. Certificates go to the consultant with the as-builts, and every board carries a circuit directory.

Cable sizing and protection come from the design, which accounts for installation method and Saudi ambient temperatures. The contractor installs what was designed and reports any site condition that invalidates it, such as a tray route that no longer fits.

Deliverables are single line diagrams, board schedules, test certificates, a labelling schedule and as-built drawings. To price LV distribution in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam or Khobar, send the single line diagram, the board and cable schedules, the containment layouts and the BOQ. Price and lead time depend on the scope, and the offer states both.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a main, sub-main and final distribution board?+

The main board receives the incoming supply, sub-main boards feed zones or floors from it, and final boards feed the lights, sockets and equipment circuits. The single line diagram shows the hierarchy.

Why does IEC 61439 matter for a distribution board?+

It sets the verification a board assembly must pass, covering temperature rise, short-circuit withstand and clearances. The maker supplies the verification documents, and they go into the handover file.

What do I send to price an LV installation?+

The single line diagram, board and cable schedules, containment layouts, the specification clauses and the BOQ. State whether the boards and cables are client-supplied.

Who handles the SEC connection?+

The owner applies for the supply, and the installation is built to SEC requirements for the connection and metering. The offer states what it assumes SEC or the owner provides at the connection point.
